What is BPSS?
The Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) is the UK government's pre-employment screening standard for people requiring access to certain government assets and roles.
A full BPSS process covers:
- Identity verification
- Right to work in the UK
- Employment history (normally at least three years)
- Criminal record check (unspent convictions, as applicable)
BPSS is not a security clearance. Employers remain responsible for determining the appropriate screening requirements.
